Alto Ladies 9-Hole Golf Association (AL9GA)

The Alto Ladies 9-Hole Golf Association would like to welcome all the ladies of the Alto Golf and Country Club to join the AL9GA. Our objective is to have fun while learning more about the game of golf.

Betsey Massey is credited for initially recognizing the needs of a group of women at Alto Lakes who were interested in playing 9 rather than 18 holes of golf due to time constraints, skill level or physical limitations. Betsey inspired Norma Hendon and Marvel McKinley to formally establish the Alto Ladies 9-Hole Golf Association in 2001 by adapting by-laws and standing rules. Norma became the first president and Marvel organized the play days. The rapid growth of the Alto Ladies 9-Hole Golf Association endorsed the wisdom and vision of these three ladies, and the AL9GA quickly became a sanctioned entity in the Alto Lakes Golf and Country Club community.

March 2024

Spring is around the corner, and so is our AL9GA 2024 golf season.  Your board met on Feb 6, and will meet again on March 5.  Pat Parker brought in a proposed budget for the upcoming season.  The board discussed, made changes, and will revisit at the next board meeting to approve.  As soon as the budget is approved by the board, we will post it to our AL9GA club webpage for your review.

Dianna Gibson has most of our playdays organized and is still working out some details as well as a few away playdays.  The tournament schedule has been set.  Sleeping Bear (Member-Member) will be Tuesday June 25, and Mama Zia (Member-Guest) will be Wednesday & Thursday, August 28 & 29. You can find the complete play day and tournament schedule on the AL9GA club webpage.

February 2024

Winter is here and looks like Alto got some much-needed moisture this month.  So thankful!

Your executive board has been working on the 2024 budget, dates/hostesses for the upcoming socials, play day schedule (in and outside of Alto), and tournament schedule.  “Thank you” to Susan Holmes for being our voice at the Golf and Greens committee meeting in January.  She expressed our concerns over the 2024 play schedule.  We understand the schedule has been approved and we will respect their decision.  Hoping for change in 2025 and we wanted our voice to be heard.

December 2023

Hope this finds you doing well and that everyone had a great Thanksgiving with family and / or friends.  We are well into the Holiday season, so I know you are busy getting the decorating and shopping done as I am.

In November the AL9GA board was approached to give a donation to help with Kirk Taylor’s healthcare out of pocket cost.  We took a quick vote with the executive board and voted to give $1000 toward the much-needed heart surgery for Kirk.  I know the other associations as well as ALSO group and individuals also gave money.  The reports I have received from Kirk’s surgery is that it went well, and he is recovering.  Our thoughts and prayers continue for complete healing and recovery.

November 2023

I hope this finds you all doing well and enjoying the beauty of the Fall colors and cooler weather.

So far, the weather has cooperated with our AL9GA schedule for playing Oct golf, unlike the years before when we had to cancel due to weather and wind.  (Except for Oct 30th – too cold to play.)

October 2023

Our summer fun is coming to an end, and what a great year we have had! You all have made this year super amazing. On behalf of your AL9GA board, we appreciate the confidence you all put in us to lead the 9-holers through this season.  Our growing pains were a challenge, but we got through it.  Hoping that next year we can play front and back 9 so we do not have a wait list.
