You can make a toddy with just about any type of liquor - bourbon, whiskey, rum, tequila, and gin all work well!
Our cocktail of the month, the Peach Cobbler Hot Toddy, is made with Grant's scotch, fresh peaches, cinnamon, and a sprinkle of nutmeg (see below for the full recipe).
There are two rival stories for where the hot toddy came from:
1. Traditionally recognized as originating in India during the British occupation, the hot todday it was originally called a “taddy.” In that time, a “taddy” was a beverage made from fermented palm sap. By the 1700s, the toddy had evolved to “ a beverage made with liquor, hot water, sugar, and spices.”
2. An Irish doctor with the surname of Todd was in the habit of proscribing a concoction of hot brandy, cinnamon, and sugar water to his patients with colds.
Whatever its true origins, the hot toddy should be enjoyed especially during the chilly fall and cold winter months.
